Halloween for a Change

Howdy Y'all! What's going on?

Thursday I spent the day at the library, searching for jobs, filling out applications, emailing professors for grad school inquiries and running errands. I left the library on campus at 17:00 and was shocked to see a HUGE line of people snaking through town.

Barack Obama - our next president (in case you didn't know) - was scheduled to speak on the Quad on the University of Missouri campus at 21:30, the gates were to open at 19:30. I was a little panicked at how large the line already was as I had planned to try to see him talk. I raced home, washed my hair, grabbed my camera and batteries, and a jacket then raced back downtown. I parked in my old apartment parking lot to avoid traffic in the garages then headed to find the end of the line. I walked and walked and walked. Finally, I decided that there was no way I was going to get anywhere near the Quad if I waited in this line. I changed plans and went behind the stage where I found a small place cordoned off. Security said we were allowed to stay there as long as we didn't cross the barricades. FANTASTIC! There I met up with my friend, Jamie. We waited for over 2 hours but it was so worth it. We had a perfect view of the stage and podium, as well as all the behind the scenes action going on. We saw the travelling press show up, the snipers take their places with their GIANT guns on the rooftops, and then we saw Barack roll in. It was great!

I'm not going to get all preachy here. I'm just going to say that regardless of who you're going to vote for, GO VOTE!

The bronze tiger in front and Jesse Hall in the back. I loved the "Missouri For Change" sign!

Yours truly at the Quad after Barack finished his speech.

Last night, I was feeling down and lonely. I called Abby to see what she was up to for the evening. She was going to a party and I was coming with her. There was some discussion of costume and then I said I wasn't going because I didn't have anything to wear. She and our friend Jesse had the keys to a vintage shop where we could pick out our costumes! SWEET! I found a polyester long, long-sleeve black dress with feathers around the cuffs, a witch hat with feathers around the brim and a long, gray wig! I was set! Abby found a flapper dress and a matching headband!

I met Abby at her house. She did my makeup, gave me some shoes and fishnet stockings to wear. A friend of hers showed up and we drew tattoos on him - he was a rockstar complete with electric guitar and ripped jeans. Then we were off to the party! Our friend Jesse was a pirate. ARRRR!

I haven't had this much fun on Halloween in a looong time!

Happy November!

I'll be in Grand Rapids, MI in two weeks from tomorrow! Aren't you just excited about that?! I am!
